T&H - Happy 2 Year Anniversary

7/24/2012

I had the pleasure to shoot this couple for their wedding 2 years ago and time may have passed but not much has changed. They still exude the same feeling they did on their wedding day. Being in their presence it is evident how well suited they are for one another and their happiness together is palpable.

There were a few "bumps" in our getting together. T & H do not reside in Edmonton. The street I told them to meet me on was actually closed that day for a marathon and in the middle of the shoot I discovered my feet were getting rather hot, only to look down and see I was perched on a red ant hill. NO bites and I still got some fabulous shots!

Thanks for a great shoot and the laughs, T & H. It was a pleasure as always.

Here are a few of my favorites!

Take Time to PLAY

I love this photo and all that it represents. I have seen it a few times on pinterest and various tumblrs and it's "shareworthy"! I cannot provide photo credit to its originator but KUDOS to whomever you are (if anyone knows please comment so I can provide proper credit). What a beautiful thing to allow a child a play and create aimlessly. Or to dabble in mommy or daddy's creative passion.  I think that is incredible.

We all have creativity inside of us.  People all to often say to me that they "don't have a creative bone" in their body and I strongly disagree. EVERYONE is creative! It may not be in the same way or form but we are all creative on a daily basis. Art is never right or wrong. The primary reason I paint (or do anything creative) is because it makes me happy.  If you draw stick figures and it makes you smile then DO IT. Do it all day every day if you feel like it (*** If you can afford to do so because I'm sure there are other things you should mix in there.... like work or family or something. I wouldn't want anyone coming back saying I told them to quit their job or anything....lol). My point is do what makes you happy. Make priority for more happy.  Life is full of enough challenges and disappointments so add a little sugar where you can.  If you want to paint ..... pick up a brush! Life is too fleeting to not try.  I'm glad I did and I assure you will feel the same.

I just adore this photo for more reasons then I could ever list.  I believe the world would be a better place if we all just took a little time to let our minds wander and play more.

Whyte Ave Art Walk - SUCCESS

What a great weekend! I was in the Whyte Ave Art Walk this weekend! It was my first year participating as an artist and I would be lying to say I did not go in a little nervous.  This is my first year seeking opportunities to share my work with the world. I've learned SO MUCH!

Minus a LOT of rain on Sunday, I consider the weekend overall  a success. I met lots of people, had awesome neighboring artists, was located in front of a great store (The Plaid Giraffe), heard some wonderful feedback on my work and I'm going to be part of the OFF-WHYTE: ART WALK HOLDOVERS show at The Daffodil Gallery (10412-124 Street, Edmonton, AB).  The group showing will be held from July 21-31, 2012.  The opening reception will be Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

It is a definite that I will be eagerly waiting in line next March to register for the 2013 event!  Kim and the Paint Spot staff and the volunteers did a fabulous job. (Insert applause).  What a great opportunity for the city to meet all the fine artists Edmonton (and surrounding areas) has to offer.  I am happy to have been a part of it.

Title: There Comes a Time Size: 18" x 18" (3" deep canvas) Will be available at The Daffodil Gallery between July 21-31
I finished these 2 little tarts right in the nick of time before the art walk.  They are both 18" x 18" and a new color series I've pulled out and ...... I LOVE them!  I'm playing with metallics (which are difficult to truly show in a photograph).   Stay tuned as I sense these new colors will continue.

Rain Drops

I brought my camera along last week for a dog walk with a friend.  It had rained quite a bit the few days prior which puts a damper on summer outdoor activities but it certainly covers the world with a layer of droplets that are fantastic for photography.  This particular trail is enclosed with tall trees that provides this feeling of coverage that is beautiful.  Here are a few shots from the walk:

I have a slight obsession with the Dave Matthews Band.......... okay I'll admit it's more the slight.
They have announced a new studio album release for SEPTEMBER 11, 2012.  And that, my friends, makes me elated!

Random Driving Adventure

I have officially been living in Alberta for 13 YEARS on July 1st. I moved to Red Deer straight out of high school and soon transferred to Edmonton a few short years after.  Edmonton and I have gotten quite acquainted but there is still so much I have not seen.  I ventured out today to explore a little bit.

This building is on Jasper Avenue (not too far from home) but I LOVE its reflective surfaces and how they look in the afternoon sun.  It was my first stop today to take a few shots to capture it's shiny glory.  I adore the combos of the bronzes with the gray/blue sky.

After that I headed South with no real idea in mind of anything or anywhere.  I quickly detoured East on the Whitemud because I don't recall every heading that way before (I am aware this is odd). I ended up venturing in the direction of Camrose and discovered these beautiful creatures on the side of the highway.

I love horses and seriously, who can resist a wee pony!  I most certainly cannot!  I did a quick U-turn and I hopped out of my car only to be greeted by these friendly fellows.  They were so curious as to who this crazy lady in the funny colored car was and what she was up to.

I have decided yet again that I do not use my camera nearly enough.  I found this pretty little bunch in my back alley.  A little clip of beauty amongst the refuse and dumpsters.

Happy July!
