I rarely watch the news but I did catch (and obviously heard) about the floods in Southern Alberta. It is terrible the tremendous loss people have experienced and I'm so glad to see that citizens have slowly been putting things back together.
I did however miss the blog post from Timeraiser explaining that the storage unit holding all the Calgary and Edmonton art was in downtown Calgary and everything was lost!!!!!
For those of you not familiar with the event, Timeriaser basically supports local art in major cities throughout Canada by purchasing art work from local artists and they auction it off with citizens bidding with volunteer houra vs money. I participating in this event in 2012.
I was highly impressed by the organizers last year. It's an intuitive idea! I was disheartened to hear that all the winners of last year (whom are probably far into their volunteer hours) would end up empty handed at the end if all their work. Yes, in perspective the citizens of Southern Alberta lost a lot more but I still wanted to help!
My donated piece was called Brave Face. I have tried to recreate another painting as similar to that as possible and will be giving it to Timeraiser to provide to the winning volunteer of my painting from last year. Here are the results to my effort. I am hopeful the winner will like it as much as the first version.
